Carpet Care

Carpet Facts you need to know

Ripples

This is most often caused by the carpet stretching due to temperature, humidity and common everyday wear. The problem can be corrected by your carpet installer who retrenches the carpet with a stretcher.

Fluffing

The balls of fluff, or loose fibers, found on carpet or in the vacuum cleaner bag are the normal result of fiber left in the carpet from the manufacturing process. Removing these loose fibers does not affect carpet life or appearance. With proper vacuuming most shedding gradually disappears within the first year of installation.

Indentations

The weight of heavy pieces of furniture can cause indentations in carpet. Try moving your furniture a few inches backward or sideways so that the weight is not concentrated in one place. To cure depressions, work the carpet pile back into place with your fingertips or the edge of a spoon, then, dampen the area and heat it with a hair dryer, working the fibers with your fingers or a spoon.

Surface retention

Carpet in heavily traveled areas receives the most wear. For better appearance and longer carpet life, try to reduce the amount of traffic on these areas or use small rugs in front of heavily used chairs or furniture. Although some change will eventually occur in the texture of your carpet, reducing the wear on paths and in front of furniture will slow this change.

Sprouting

Occasionally, a yarn tuft will rise above the pile surface of a carpet. Just snip off these tufts to the level of the other tufts. DO NOT PULL THEM OUT.

Pile Reversal

Shading will have some impact on the appearance of a carpet, consumers should consider the possibility that it may occur when buying a cut pile carpet. This is a natural phenomenon and not covered in the warrantee.

First aid

Here are some basic carpet cleaning tips to help you keep your carpet looking good.

  • Immediately scoop or blot up as much of the spill as possible
  • Pre-test a small inconspicuous area of the carpet to ensure against damage and possible colour change
  • Always blot, never rub or scrub
  • Working from the outer edge towards the center to avoid spreading
  • Press dry the carpet with clean white cloth or paper towel in between treatments
  • Once treated, apply water with a cloth until the carpet no longer feels sticky or soapy, then blot up with a clean white cloth or paper towel
  • Place several layers of paper towel or cloth over the cleaned area and place a flat weight on them to absorb remaining moisture
  • If unsuccessful, call a professional carpet cleaner immediately
